Hands

Often our hands bespeak our age much faster than our face.  One of the sure signs of an aged hand is the loss of subcutaneous volume and the presence of age spots.  The skin becomes thinned and the hands can look "skeletonized".  With techniques today, the volume loss can be restored with fat transplantation and the removal of the spots can be acheived with the fractionated CO2 laser.  All of these procedures can be accomplished in a small amount of time with little convalescence required.

When fat is injected into the back of the hands, it is done under a light sedation in my surgical suite.  Once the fat is removed from the abdominal area or area of  your choice, it is prepared in a sterile fashion and placed into the back of the hand via a small puncture through the skin.  This leaves no tell tale mark.  The swelling resolves from this procedure rather quickly and the results are usually long lasting.  In fact, some of the results are measured in years.  As far as the fractionated laser procedure on the age spots, that can be performed at the same time or at a different time.

In a society where faces are "refurbished" on a regular basis, now hands can be.  However, one of the reasons this is not the norm in my opinion is that the public at large doesn't know of the advance in science that has produced the techniques that are now available to correct this unsightly problem that we will all have eventually.
