What is a cosmeceutical? These are products that for the most part are not strongly medicinal and thus they are not regulated by the FDA. These products are produced and promoted by private industry with facilitation by physicians and aestheticians. The industry as a whole is constantly searching for the best "ingredients" to create the latest and greatest so as to maintain the demand for that product. To avoid FDA scrutiny as opposed to pharmaceuticals, they must keep their concentrations lower than allowed by a prescription if the ingredient falls under the heading of medicinal. If this restriciton does not exist, then the creator of the product can use whatever concentrations they deem necessary. However, since they are not on the FDA radar screen, their claims do not have to be substantiated by costly clinical trials as do pharmaceuticals makers.
This creates for the vending physicain or aesthetician the burden of making a judgement call on the products they provide for their patients and/or clients. The ones listed below are either there because of their track record or represent the latest on the market with enough reasonable science to make them appropriate for sale through our office. At our surgi-spa, if Dr. English's pharmaceutical grade products are not warranted, then the line of products outlined are among the best that we know of for what they are. However, as the need for skin rejuvenation increases based on age and life style, then a stronger solution to the problem may exist with Dr. English's prescription products. If you would like information about either, please call Stefany for a complimentary consultation at your earliest convenience.
