The part of the face affected by the traditional lower face lift is located below a line drawn from the top of the ear to the corner of the mouth. Although the mouth and chin are part and parcel of this demographic locale , they are not and should not be appreciably changed by the lower face lift procedure. Any attempt to significantly change them via this technique would produce the wind blown look so typical of the results from yesteryear. There are other procedures we use to enhance those areas. The area of the neck involved with this procedure typically lies between the larynx (voice box) and the lower margin of the mandible (jaw line). The areas of dissection extend backwards toward and slightly behind the ears in roughly the same vertical dimension as the distance from the larynx to the chin in the midline of the neck. The entirety of the procedure itself will be discussed under the section labeled lower facelift located below.
