Skin is our body's largest organ-system and the one that we prize the most as far as beauty is concerned. If a person weighs one hundred and fifty pounds, their total surface area would be slightly less than two yards. It is our protective barrier against the elements, it is involved in the regulation of our body's temperature and the metabolism of vitamin D and calcium as well as many other metabolic processes.
As aforementioned, it represents our first line of defense but it can become damaged while providing that service for each of us. The problem that we run into later than not is that we take our skin and its appearance for granted. Much like interest in a bank, the ravages of the sun and life style choices are applied to our life account over time. ( As you know, if a loved one placed a sizable amount of money in an account for you at birth, as interest compounds, the effects can be much more than if the amount of funds placed early on were limited.) Such is the damage to our skin incurred during our youth. It doesn't help if you were not considerate of the situation for the first two or three decades of life only to become so later.
However, don't feel alone. Our ancestors did the same thing. Since antiquity, our forefathers and mothers have been involved in trying to achieve that youthful glow that comes from heallthy, well protected skin. The Egyptians would bathe in sour milk to utilize the lactic acid content for skin repair. The Turks would singe their skin with fire in a controlled manner to facilitate the regrowth of new skin. The French would apply red wine to their skin's surface to obtain the benefits from the tartaric acid and the anti-oxidant properties and so on and so forth.
The procedures listed below are the more common and time tested ones that are utilized at the English Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center and Surgi-Spa. This includes the latest in technology, the fractionated carbon dioxide laser. As you read the information, if you or a loved one can benefit from one of these procedures, please contact us at your convenience.
