WHAT IS JUVEDERM?

JUVÉDERM®, JUVÉDERM® Plus and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus are all hyaluronic products that have been used successfully for intradermal injections with the intended purpose of filling lines and wrinkles as well as enhancing thin lips. The JUVÉDERM® product line allows for a choice of longevity in the results obtained because of the way the injectable materials are prepared. Through a process known as cross-linkage, the HA molecules are “linked” together to allow a more aggressive gel that can produce results that last longer than those products that are less cross linked.

Cross-linkage can best be thought of as you might think of the difference between a barbed wire fence and a chain linked fence. When the molecules become more interwoven as with a chain linked design, the product becomes more gelatinous and will be less apt to lose its desired shape once placed within the dermis whether to fill a line or wrinkle and/or to plump up lips.

As technology improves, we can expect to see these types of modifications that will allow a better product as well as one that is more cost effective for the patients.

VOLUMA

Another popular product in the Juvederm® family of fillers is Voluma®, which is FDA-approved for treating age-related volume loss. Voluma consists of hyaluronic acid, which firms and plumps the cheeks, restoring more youthful contours and eliminating sagging.

VOLBELLA

A loss in volume may also occur in the lips, along with fine lines and wrinkles that cause lipstick to bleed. Volbella® addresses the issue of thin, wrinkled lips by providing fullness to smooth the skin and cause them to appear thicker and more voluptuous.

VOLLURE

The makers of Juvederm utilized the same technology they used to create Voluma in order to come up with Vollure®. This dermal filler specifically addresses moderate-to-severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds that often appear between the mouth and nose.
